Comical reflections

While my estemeed fellow bloggers at Frugal Me strive for thriftiness in all things, I trust they will not succumb to the endgame of such activities which is upper-middle-class über-competitiveness.  Today’s Wondermark could be a corollary in this regard to the archives of Stuff White People Like.

As I consider on one hand the ubiquity of the Rickroll, and on the other the planning of our small wedding (set for the Saturday of Labour Weekend 2009), I find the two here amusingly synthesised.  (An aside: this couple appears to be being married by a bishop.)

Bishops marry people all the time, it’s not unusual – you just have to belong to their parish and get married on a day when they happen to be officiating. And it’s a great way to enhance your nuptials without incurring extra charges. (This comment was brought to you by my new blog, Frugal Tips for Stingy Catholics).

I grew up Anglican, which had similar, but slightly more limited, access to bishops. I think one could get the bishop to run the ceremony if one married at the cathedral, but the alternative would have been marrying on one of the Sunday services when the bishop was making his (or, latterly, her) parish rounds.

I doubt, however, that any of them could have been provoked to rickroll. Although this guy might, if the donation were right?

You’re not allowed to link to a photo of that guy without appropriate warning. My eyes are soiled.

Rickrolled wedding? I prefer my weddings mixalotted.

    Giovanni: Alas!

Stephen: It is possible that there is no public event that cannot be improved by a segue into that song.
