harvestbird's tips for essay marking:

It's better to start early in the day and keep a pot of coffee nearby than start later and have the precious evening hours taken up with marking.

Music is important: this scholar recommends jangly guitar pop, played directly into your ears if possible. Failing this, cheerful synth-pop will do.

Be compassionate when you think of the students' efforts, including those cynically played, and then be fair in your marking. B or C band essays with a whole lotta comments are better bang for their buck than a pity A-.

Eat a lot of starchy foods. If you have too much sugar you're stealing future time. (One could make the same argument about coffee, but one has to be compassionate to oneself.)

Do not put the howlers on the internet. (Reserve them for dinner parties if you must.)

What do you reckon? Workable as a box-set?
